Post 4: Project Debrief | 24/05/2014

Project Details:

The objective is to find a new adaptive reuse and function and include a F&B commercial Venture.

The residence of Tan Teng Niah (See Post 2) was gazetted a URA Conservation site, brimming with rich history and architectural heritage. It is located a midst a row of shop-houses in Little India; formally known as 'THE ARTS BELT". The new adaptive reuse and function is meant to cater to the arts groups situated along The Arts Belt.

The challenge would be to create this common arts ground that addresses and engages design issues and the cultural, societal, economical and environmental issues that are currently present in the Little India district.

Post 3: Next Step | 16/05/2014

Hi Again!

So today i received the floor plans of the Tan Teng Niah House. (Boy! Are those plans just so faded and difficult to see!) Well at least we  managed to get the plans and section views in the first place, right?:)

First things first, i am going to draw out my plans and sections on Autodesk Revit. I decided to use Revit for this project. Firstly because i need more practice and exposure on it; secondly because its evolving into a software most prominently used in the Building & Construction sector in Singapore.

I also had my first consultation with Ms Cynthia on 14/5/2014 (Weds). More updates on that will come up right after my next post on the Project Debrief.

May the Force be with You!

Yours Truly,
Luke Skywalker

PS: Heading to an Indian Chinese Cuisine Restaurant for dinner tomorrow! Questioning my Randomness?? Look out for my next few posts!;)

Post 2: Baby Steps | 13/05/2014

Its been a few days since I last posted. Well, here are some updates:

Tan Teng Niah House, 37 Kerbau Road
First things first, I visited the Tan Teng Niah House again with my Darling Dee(Adillah). We took photographs on both the first level and the exterior of the house. (Not to mention the unbelievable amount of selfies we took! Haha!) We were not granted permission to visit the top/2nd level as they were private offices. However, being the stubborn children your parents probably warned you about, we attempted to explore the prohibited space. We managed to grab some shots before we got chased out by one of the office workers. It was definitely still worth the try!J

Next, we headed to the Library to check out some books on Interior Design. Armed with some basics on Interior Design and Space Planning, I borrowed 2 books that I thought would be helpful. I was in a rush, so these books are not exactly what I was looking for. However, they were still worth a read; I guess its time for me to head back to the library!

Last but not least, I have decided to post my full understanding of the design brief so that I know I have not missed out on any details. So do look out for my next post, probably tonight! As for now, Sayōnara!

Love, Lulu<3

PS: Below are some of the picts i took on 10/5/2014 with my Baby Nikon D3200.

Colourful Facade after Restoration

Angled shot highlighting the Colors that stood out against the faded sky

Name Plate at the entrance of the house, stating 'Siew Song' or Elegant Pine.
Referring to the wife of Tan Teng Niah, whom the house was built for.

Post 1: In the Beginning | 09/05/2014

I am Lucretia Maria Lucias Jeraled.
Welcome to 'The Interior Designer Diaries'.

This is my Digital Journal for my Interior Design and Space Planning module in school.
Am currently a final year student studying Architecture in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore.

This journal will document all my thoughts, feelings, inspirations, learnings and progress i make throughout the semester. Basically, everything.

I am quite a systematic person, but sometimes a very messy one too, so i hope this blog will be well organized and easy to read. Yes, this blog will be graded, but i dont exactly know how. Either way, i want to give it my all and do my best in creating a comprehensive journal.

This is probably what one might call a 'test post'. Well, as long as it looks fine on the blog, im ready to continue posting. Ciao!
