Post 12 | Renderings | 02/08/2014

This post shows the perspectives i have chosen and the renders i did for each of them. The modelling was done on Sketchup while the rendering was fully done on photoshop.

This is the House of Om Restaurant situated on the first level of the Tan Teng Niah Building. It has a refined Chinese interior that offers a temple like feel. However, the rough and smooth walls give more definition to the space.

WOAH GUYSSSSS

Deadlines are drawing and i have done up most of the required items. These are the materials i will be using for the project:

These materials reflect the materials used in the temple architecture. They showcase the rough and smoothness of textures that define the various spaces.

My next post will show the perspectives and progression to my renders.

CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE

Guys,
Am extremely stressed out now. So many things need to be done and so little time. Haiz.....

Anyway update is CHANGE. I have totally changed my entire floor plans. And they need refinement. I have heard of people who do last minute changes with astonishing results but im not sure if this is one of those cases! After torturous hours of me glued to the screen, this is the result.

Not labelled, but my spacial planning has changed. I flipped the first and second storeys. I think its for the best as it creates a better flow throughout the spaces.

Ciao,
Lulu

Hello My Lovelies,

Its time to focus on the design part of the entire module. DESIGNING THE SPACE. Ms Cynthia had given me extremely valuable feedback and ways i can improve my designs. Here are my mood boards just to give a hint of what i want to design in my space.

Feel free to click on them for a detailed and bigger pictures.

Stonework, Intricate Cravings, Light and Darkness.
All trying to invoke the spiritual, sensuous and sacred space of a temple.

Refined, Grand, Bliss.
Proposing Grandeur and a Celebration upon reaching enlightenment.

My Materials and design will be highlighted in my next post.

Post 8 | Conceptual Translation | 18/07/2014

Hi Guys,

So i have done some tweaking to my concepts to best fit the whole purpose of the space which is to highlight and show off dance in its rare form. So my confirmed concepts are SPIRITUALITY and BALINESE TEMPLE ARCHITECTURE.

My slides below show my concept:

Acceptance, Connection, Oneness

Abstraction of ideas from the architecture of the Balinese Temple.

Thats it for now!

Post 7: Spatial Planning & Design | 12/07/2014

Yo Guys!

So latest update: I had my Interim II on the 4th of June. was busy prepping for that. But, the judging panel absolutely liked my concept. they found it different. It appealed to them alot. was grateful for that as it made my day.

Moving on, they still found minor things for me to work on. Especially the idea of feeling and experiencing the space. I had good ideas but they could not see much of a translation to physicality. Below are a few of my slides. They show my spacial programming of the spaces:

The spiral was based on my Concept of the Balinese Temple Architecture. Will talk more about it in my next post.

For now, ciao!:)

Post 6 | Conceptualization | 04/06/2014

Hello there,

Its been only a few days but i believe the concepts for my design are interesting and has much potential. The interior design of The Tan Teng Niah house is Spirituality. I derived to this concept because of the roots of Tan Teng Niah itself. A Chinese Home situated in the heart of Little India, anything but IRONIC. Well this irony definitely appealed to me. It got me thinking; What is any one type of connection between a Chinese and Indian? Be it people, culture or anything. And only then did it occur to me. Buddhism.

Buddhism is not a religion. It is a way of life. Something that can be practiced with the ultimate goal of becoming enlightened where they find ultimate peace and feel bliss.

There are 3 stages to reach enlightenment.

Acceptance is being aware and in the moment but being able to be neutral instead of thinking too much and judging.

Connections is being able to feel drawn to everything and anything around you. The ability to attach yourself to people and things around you

And Oneness is being to understand that everything is you and you are in everything.

Using these stages i wish to highlight 3 different spaces in the house.

Ciao, Lulu:)

Post 5 | Standardization | 02/06/2014

Its been some time since i last wrote. Have been really busy making decisions and coming up with designs for both Tan Teng Niah and Design Studio. Managed to finally find time to to it. Progress has been good so far. Am awaiting for my Interim II on 4 June. Anyway, below are my Cient's(NAC) vision, my individual vision for Tan Teng Niah and the Programmes i wish to instill in the Tan Teng Niah House.

Clients Vision
The vision is to create more awareness and appreciation for the Arts Scene in Singapore. Currently, the arts scene is hiding behind the fast pace and urbanization of Singapore. Though not neglected, the arts has lot more to show and admired by Singaporeans. Other than that, the need for cross cultural understanding of the arts in necessary in a country that pushes for harmony within a multi-racial community.

My Vision
I envision that dance though different for the various cultures will be regarded as a language of its own. Dance is after all dramatic movement of the body without the need for words to be understood. Expressions can be seen, Emotions can be felt, Everything can be understood.

Programmes:
A GALLERY will educate Singaporeans and Tourists on Dance from the various cultures at the Arts Belt. They will be able to gain knowledge on the various types of dances in Singapore.

PERFORMANCE SPACE to allow the people to see and appreciate the art through dance performances.

RESTAURANT drawing factor for the place that will let people chance upon the dance gallery and thus, spark interest in the art forms

A Store to allow more practicing space within their individual shop houses by transferring their costumes and required items there.

Backstage to allow Preparation before performances.

This is Lulu signing off:) Ciao!

PS: Stay tuned for more updates on my Concept and draft drawings of my probable designs for the Tan Teng Niah House

Post 3: Next Step | 16/05/2014

Hi Again!

So today i received the floor plans of the Tan Teng Niah House. (Boy! Are those plans just so faded and difficult to see!) Well at least we  managed to get the plans and section views in the first place, right?:)

First things first, i am going to draw out my plans and sections on Autodesk Revit. I decided to use Revit for this project. Firstly because i need more practice and exposure on it; secondly because its evolving into a software most prominently used in the Building & Construction sector in Singapore.

I also had my first consultation with Ms Cynthia on 14/5/2014 (Weds). More updates on that will come up right after my next post on the Project Debrief.

May the Force be with You!

Yours Truly,
Luke Skywalker

PS: Heading to an Indian Chinese Cuisine Restaurant for dinner tomorrow! Questioning my Randomness?? Look out for my next few posts!;)

Post 2: Baby Steps | 13/05/2014

Its been a few days since I last posted. Well, here are some updates:

Tan Teng Niah House, 37 Kerbau Road
First things first, I visited the Tan Teng Niah House again with my Darling Dee(Adillah). We took photographs on both the first level and the exterior of the house. (Not to mention the unbelievable amount of selfies we took! Haha!) We were not granted permission to visit the top/2nd level as they were private offices. However, being the stubborn children your parents probably warned you about, we attempted to explore the prohibited space. We managed to grab some shots before we got chased out by one of the office workers. It was definitely still worth the try!J

Next, we headed to the Library to check out some books on Interior Design. Armed with some basics on Interior Design and Space Planning, I borrowed 2 books that I thought would be helpful. I was in a rush, so these books are not exactly what I was looking for. However, they were still worth a read; I guess its time for me to head back to the library!

Last but not least, I have decided to post my full understanding of the design brief so that I know I have not missed out on any details. So do look out for my next post, probably tonight! As for now, Sayōnara!

Love, Lulu<3

PS: Below are some of the picts i took on 10/5/2014 with my Baby Nikon D3200.

Colourful Facade after Restoration

Angled shot highlighting the Colors that stood out against the faded sky

Name Plate at the entrance of the house, stating 'Siew Song' or Elegant Pine.
Referring to the wife of Tan Teng Niah, whom the house was built for.

My last shot.

Post 1: In the Beginning | 09/05/2014

I am Lucretia Maria Lucias Jeraled.
Welcome to 'The Interior Designer Diaries'.

This is my Digital Journal for my Interior Design and Space Planning module in school.
Am currently a final year student studying Architecture in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore.

This journal will document all my thoughts, feelings, inspirations, learnings and progress i make throughout the semester. Basically, everything.

I am quite a systematic person, but sometimes a very messy one too, so i hope this blog will be well organized and easy to read. Yes, this blog will be graded, but i dont exactly know how. Either way, i want to give it my all and do my best in creating a comprehensive journal.

This is probably what one might call a 'test post'. Well, as long as it looks fine on the blog, im ready to continue posting. Ciao!
